Certificate of Airworthiness
A certificate of airworthiness is the certification that a specific aircraft is in a condition that allows safe flight operations. Such a state of airworthiness is given when all required technical and operational requirements are met. The certificate is a prerequisite for operating an aircraft. The English name is Airworthiness Certificate (CS).
The European Commission , acting by means of a Regulation , the implementing rules established for the issuance of airworthiness certificates. In the Federal Republic of Germany , the Federal Aviation Office (LBA) issues it on this basis .
A certificate of airworthiness can only be issued if a type certificate is available. The holder of the aircraft and the holder of the type certificate are responsible for maintaining the certificate.
