Life

Little is known about Schettini's life, as he rarely appeared in public and his musical work was shaped by a strong, idiosyncratic character.

His father was a merchant and brought respectable wealth to the family. Luigi received his first piano lessons at the age of 7 , later the violin followed . Due to his early musical talent, he received private composition lessons a. a. by Gian Francesco Malipiero and Alfredo Casella . His works, including chamber music as well as 3 symphonies and 1 opera ( Giulio Cesare ) were never published in print and were only available in manuscript.

In the early 1970s he destroyed most of his works. The few remains are now privately owned. Schettini died on July 2, 1973 in Rome at the age of 65 from effects of heat stroke. In the recent past there have been occasional public performances of his works.
