Luisendenkmal (Magdeburg)
The Luisendenkmal was at Geschwister-Scholl-Park , a city park in the district of Old Town in Magdeburg .
history
The Magdeburg monument to Queen Luise was initiated by a citizens' committee that collected 40,000 marks for the monument and commissioned the Berlin sculptor Johannes Götz to make the marble statue . On June 18, 1901, the monument was ceremoniously unveiled in what was then the Luisengarten. In February 1963 it was knocked off its base - only the head remained and ended up in the museum.
As an “expression of citizenship”, a new Queen Luise monument was created with the help of donations from Magdeburg entrepreneurs, rebuilt at the historic location in 2009 and inaugurated on June 25th.
