Luke Passion (Schütz)
The St. Luke Passion ( SWV 480) , full title: Historia of the Passion and Death of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ according to the Evangelist St. Luke , is a sacred choral work composed by Heinrich Schütz . It dates from 1653 and forms the first part of the chorale trilogy, which he later completed with the St. John Passion (1665/66) and the St. Matthew Passion (1666).
The work is in F Lydian and the performance lasts about 40 minutes.
The line-up (mixed choir / SATB) is, unlike the famous Bach Passions , purely vocal.
