Lukas area
The Lukasareal is a residential complex in the Dresdner Südvorstadt . It got its name from the nearby Lukaskirche on Lukasplatz.
description
The Lukasareal residential complex extends over 11,000 square meters and consists of a total of 39 row houses and four town houses.
Each townhouse with four floors has seven apartments, which have their own terrace or roof terrace. The largest apartments go over three floors. Each row house has a living space over three floors with a basement and its own garden. The residential complex also has ten shops. The center of the complex is a green area that gives the impression of “living in the country, although the city center is not far”. The facades of the buildings are characterized by clear structures; Slidable facade elements made of wood and uniform colors in beige and red shape the buildings and allow the "individual parts of the quarter [...] to appear as a single structural unit."
meaning
The area was designed by the architects Ivan Reimann and Thomas Müller and executed from 1999 to 2005. In 2007 the residential complex was awarded the Dresden City Building Prize. At the award ceremony it was emphasized that “the facility is a convincing example of modern inner-city housing in Dresden”. The project had already been nominated for the urban development award in 2004. The “Stiftung Wüstenrot” selected the Lukas area among the top ten among 600 residential construction projects in Germany even before it was completed: “It is a prime example of inner-city construction that guarantees green, light and quiet without its residents having to forego proximity to the city. "The complex is considered an" exemplary example of high-quality inner-city living "and has" become a place of pilgrimage for city planners, architects and people who dream of modern, individual living in the middle of the city. "
The models for the buildings were on the one hand townhouses, such as can be seen in London or Amsterdam , on the other hand, but also the "tradition of the English and German garden city movement as we know it from Hellerau ". With its concept of moving residents from the built-up, but increasingly vacant buildings in the peripheral areas to retreat to the city center, the Lukas area is "a role model for East Germany".
