Luke Ming Flanagan ( Irish Lúcás Ming Ó Flannagáin , born January 22, 1972 in Roscommon ) is an Irish politician of the Confederal Group of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left .
Life
From 2004 to 2011 Flanagan was a member of Roscommon City Council. He was Mayor of Roscommon from 2010 to February 2011. From February 2011 to May 2014, Flanagan was an independent MP in the Dáil Éireann . He has been a member of the European Parliament since 2014 . There he is a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and of the Delegation for relations with Afghanistan .
He is nicknamed Ming after the character Ming the Merciless ("Ming the Merciless") from the Flash Gordon series , whose hair and beard cut he took over.
