The Luna Park at Auensee in the Leipzig district of Wahren was an amusement park that existed at Auensee from 1912 to 1932 .

history

The site was on Leipzig's Auensee, a former gravel pit . In 1911 the construction of the main restaurant, today's Haus Auensee, began. Luna-Park GmbH was founded on May 4th, 1912. In 1913 the lido was opened at the Auensee. On October 13th, approval for a small amusement ride, the Luna Express, was granted. Between 1912 and 1914, various restaurants and rides were built around the lake. A mountain scenery train (a form of roller coaster often built at the time ) and a hippodrome were built. On May 5, 1914, the main restaurant was accepted. The Luna-Park applied at the time as "the largest entertainment establishment in Germany with ½ million square meters" . As a result of the global economic crisis, Luna-Park GmbH had to file for bankruptcy and was dissolved on January 13, 1932. In 1934, most of the park's amusement facilities were demolished. The main restaurant remained and was renamed Haus Auensee in 1936 . In 1941 the city of Leipzig became the owner of the entire Auensee area.
