Lunascape is a web browser developed by the Tokyo-based company Lunascape KK ( Lunascape Corporation ).
Functions
The program is characterized by the fact that it uses the three most popular HTML rendering engines Gecko ( Mozilla Firefox ), WebKit ( Apple Safari and Google Chrome ) and Trident ( Internet Explorer ). Lunascape is the first browser to use more than two engines. The user can switch seamlessly between the individual engines while surfing, and the engine can also be set separately for each tab opened in the browser . You can also assign a specific engine to individual pages. Each open tab is executed in its own process. The browser also supports skins, mouse gestures , plug-ins and add-ons . In addition to its own add-ons, Lunascape can also use those for Firefox or Internet Explorer.
history
In 2001, the first version of Hidekazu Kondō ( 近藤 秀 和 , Kondō Hidekazu ) was published. Since version 2.0 from 2004 both Trident and Gecko are supported as rendering engine, since version 5, which was published in January 2009, also WebKit. With version 5, Lunascape was also internationalized , which was previously only available in Japanese. From version 6.2 it is possible to replace the Gecko engine supplied with Lunascape with a different one.
Lunascape is based on Qt and requires Internet Explorer version 6 or higher. Since version 6 of Lunascape, 12 languages are fully supported (as of April 2011) and 17 more are partially supported. Since August 2010, Lunascape was one of the browsers that Microsoft offered under BrowserChoice.eu as an alternative to Internet Explorer.
