Lushoto

Lushoto , founded in 1898 as Wilhelmstal during the German colonial era , is a city in Tanzania in East Africa . It is located in the west of the Usambara Mountains , a mountain range in northeastern Tanzania, which is also the namesake of the Usambara violet . Lushoto is the capital of the district of the same name in the Tanga region .

The 2002 census counted 419,970 residents in the Lushoto district. Mlalo also belongs to the district of Lushoto .

history

Around 1900 the place became the seat of an imperial district office and had about 200 inhabitants. A forestry office with a model plantation, a surveying office, two guest houses and a post and telegraph agency were created. Several companies settled here, and in 1912 13 plantations had branches here. A police force with 64 men was stationed in the village . A country road connected Wilhelmstal with a stop on the Usambarabahn .

A railway connection from Mombo was no longer implemented because of the First World War .
