Lussheim (fig)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lussheim is a house fig variety of the Ficus carica species from Altlußheim in the Electoral Palatinate , known for its sweet taste and great winter hardiness .

tree

The fig variety Lussheim is vigorous, has only a few runners and in Central Europe reaches a height of over 5 m and a width of 4 m. The leaf is five to seven lobed and deeply incised. The tree only branches from a height of about one meter.

fruit

The fruits are green, have very long stems and weigh between 30 and 35 grams. They taste very sweet and are full of seeds and ripen in Central Europe as early as July. Despite the early fruit ripeness, the variety is a so-called "autumn fig", also called "Unifera", which means that the tree only bears fruit once a year - albeit very early.

Winter hardiness

The fig variety Lussheim has an unmatched winter hardiness. In Lussheim, the mother tree has developed into a huge tree over the decades that survived even the most severe frosts.
