Luther Grosvenor

Luther Grosvenor (born December 23, 1946 in Evesham , Worcestershire , England ) is a British rock musician who played with Spooky Tooth , for a short time with Stealers Wheel and, under the pseudonym Ariel Bender, with Mott the Hoople .

Luther grew up in Evesham, Worcestershire in the west of England , where he played in lesser-known bands. In the group The Hellians (later renamed Deep Feeling ) he met Jim Capaldi , who became known with Traffic . Poli Palmer also played in Deep Feeling .

After that he joined a band called VIP, in which Keith Emerson was also active for some time . VIP was renamed Art and in 1967 Spooky Tooth .

The years with Spooky Tooth (1967-1970), Stealers Wheel 1972/73 and Mott the Hoople 1973/74 were the most successful of his musical career.

After he left Mott the Hoople, he released some solo albums and founded Widowmaker , which existed until 1977 with singer Steve Ellis (ex- The Love Affair ) and drummer Paul Nicholls (ex- Lindisfarne ) , among others .

In the 1990s, Luther Grosvenor returned to the stage for a Spooky Tooth reunion and then went on to participate in Mott the Hoople gatherings. He also came back to his pseudonym and put together an Ariel Bender band .
