Luther Monument (Magdeburg)
The Luther Memorial is in honor of the reformer Martin Luther in Magdeburg built and representing him as a figure monument .
The memorial is located in Magdeburg's old town to the northwest in front of the Sankt-Johannis-Kirche .
The establishment of the of Emil Hundrieser created bronze statue (cast from the bronze foundry Gladbeck , Berlin) took place in 1886. At the base there was temporarily the inscription Doctor Martin Luther +1524+ . After the political change in 1989, the monument was given a new, more splendid base with the new inscription, God's word with us in eternity .
The memorial is intended to remember that Martin Luther preached to a large crowd in this church on June 26, 1524. As a result of the sermon , the city's citizens and council followed Protestantism in Luther's moderate orientation.
