The Lutheran Gutnius Church ( Tok Pisin , English Good News , German Gute Nachrichten ) is a denominational Evangelical Lutheran Church in Papua New Guinea with around 150,000 (as of 2010) parishioners.


The Lutheran Gutnius Church, formerly known as the Lutheran Wabag Church , was founded by the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod in 1948.


This church is mainly found in the Enga and Western Highlands provinces of the country. It works with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea , but below church and communion fellowship . Both churches cooperate in the training of pastors and together with the Anglican Church of the country support the Balob Teachers College in Lae.

Church external relations

The church maintains full communion and communion with the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. She is a member of the International Lutheran Council and the Lutheran World Federation . She maintains local connections with the more liberal Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea.
