Lutz Möckel

Lutz Möckel (born October 20, 1956 ) was a football player in East Berlin . For 1. FC Union Berlin he played in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR Football Association (DFV) . He is a multiple junior national team player for the DFV.

Athletic career

In 1963 Möckel's football career began in the Berlin outskirts of Kleinmachnow with the company sports community (BSG) unit. Möckel came to 1. FC Union Berlin in 1970 as a 13-year-old through East Berlin's BSG Motor Treptow. In 1973 he was discovered for the GDR junior national team and played as a defender in his first junior international match on September 25, 1973 against Cuba (1-0). By 1975 he was used in a total of eight junior internationals. On May 11, 1974 Möckel was 17 years old for the first time in the first men's team of the Unioner, it was the promotion round game for Oberliga Chemie Böhlen - 1. FC Union Berlin (1-0). In the end, Union was only third in the promotion round and had to continue to compete in the second-rate GDR league in 1974/75. This season Möckel played only six of the 22 GDR league point games, but was then used in seven of the eight promotion games. Also in 1975 Union could not prevail in the relegation. In 1975/76 Möckel was already part of the league team, he was used a total of 29 times in 22 point and eight promotion games.

In the third attempt, Union made it to the top division. From the 5th day of the league season 1976/77 on Möckel had also fought for a regular place in the new environment as a right defender, completed his first 20 league games by the end of the season, in which he once scored a goal. He also played two internationals with the GDR youth team in November 1976, in which he was also used as a defender. Möckel maintained his regular place in the Union team until 1980. When Union again relegated to the GDR league after the 1979/80 season, Möckel's stakes in the first team decreased. Only in the promotion round in 1982, which brought the Union back to the league, he played all eight games. In the following two league series between 1982 and 1984, however, he came in 26 point games only on 16 and 14 missions. During this time he played in midfield and was team captain from 1983. Möckel played his last game for the 1. Union team on February 25, 1984. In the encounter of the 15th Bundesliga match day between FC Carl Zeiss Jena and 1. FC Union (4: 1), he was substituted on again in the 74th minute. Möckel had a total of 210 competitive games in which he scored twelve goals. In the major league he made it to 123 missions in six seasons, in which he was successful with three goals.

For the football season 1984/85, the 27-year-old Möckel joined the third-rate Potsdam district league club BSG Chemie Velten . In 1987 he helped the team to the district championship, but then moved to the fourth-class BSG Empor Berlin, where he ended his sporting career as a recreational footballer.
