Luz del Carmen Ibáñez Carranza (born July 15, 1955 in Trujillo ) is a Peruvian lawyer . She is a judge at the International Criminal Court .

Live and act

Ibáñez Carranza studied law at the University of Trujillo , where she obtained a bachelor's degree in law and political science in 1982. In the same year she was admitted to the bar. Since 1984 she has been working as a prosecutor in Peru, since 1988 as senior public prosecutor. From 1990 she worked mainly in the field of human rights violations, counter-terrorism and anti-corruption, from 2000 she worked in these areas for the Attorney General of Peru. She was instrumental in the investigation against Alberto Fujimori . In 2004 she became the Senior Public Prosecutor of Lima and General Prosecutor of Peru. In this position, she managed the prosecution of Abimael Guzmán and other leaders of the terrorist organization Sendero Luminoso , as well as the processing of the crimes committed during the military rule. In 2007, she was from the Universidad Inca Garcilaso de la Vega to Dr. iur. PhD. She was also a delegate of Peru several times before the Inter-American Commission for Human Rights , the CEDAW and the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism. She is also a long-time professor of criminal law, criminal procedural law and human rights at the Universidad Nacional Federico Villareal .

On March 11, 2018, Ibáñez Carranza began her nine-year tenure as a judge at the International Criminal Court .
