Lycus of Rhegion

Lycus of Rhegion was a 3rd century BC Greek historian. Chr.

Lykos probably lived around 290 BC. In a respected position in Alexandria . He was the adoptive father of the Greek poet and grammarist Lykophron from Chalkis . His literary works include a book on Sicily and a history of Libya . These works, which have only survived in very fragmentary form, were ethnographically designed and, among other things, tell of miraculous legends . Lycos served as informants , for example, Callimachos , Antigonos of Karystos and probably also the historian Timaeus , who was responsible for the knowledge of the history of Sicily . Lykos is quoted by Athenaios , Claudius Aelianus and Stephanos of Byzantium, among others .
