Lyle H. Lanier

Lyle Hicks Lanier ( 1903 - December 30, 1988 in Phoenix , Arizona ) was an American psychologist and university professor.

Life

Lanier graduated from Vanderbilt University in Tennessee and received his MA (1924) and PhD (1926) from Peabody College . From 1926 to 1938 he taught psychology at Vanderbilt University, where he became a member of the Southern Agrarians . From 1932 to 1936 he was President of the Southern Society for Philosophy and Psychology .

At the University of Illinois he was from 1950 to 1958 professor and head of the department of psychology; then vice-president from 1960 to 1972. Later worked for the American Council on Education in Washington, DC
