Lyrics Born (bourgeois Tom Shimura , * 1972 in Tokyo , Japan ) is a Japanese hip-hop artist. Together with Lateef the Truth Speaker he founded the Duo Latyrx .

biography

Born in Japan, he grew up most of the time in Berkley, California, where his first contact with hip-hop. His own music career began in 1990 at the University of California, Davis , where he met several other music enthusiasts through the student radio station KDVS . These included Lateef The Truth Speaker (Lateef Daumont), Gift of Gab (Timothy Parker) and Chief Xcel (Xavier Mosley), together Blackalicious , DJ Shadow (Josh Davis) and Jeff "DJ Zen" Chang.

Together they founded the independent label Quannum Projects .

1993 appeared with Send Them the first publication together with DJ Shadow and 1995 with Latyrx The Album finally followed the first commercial success. In 1999 the compilation Spectrum was released , which sold over 100,000 copies worldwide. One of the decisive factors for the success was the single I Changed My Mind by Lyrics Born, which was released on the British trip-hop label Mo 'Wax and has sold more than 10,000 copies. The international breakthrough was achieved.

In 2003 the solo album Later That Day was released , followed in 2005 by the album Same! @ # $, Different Day .

In 2004 he performed live more than 150 times, resulting in the 2006 live album Overnight Encore: Lyrics Born Live! originated. The album was recorded half in Melbourne and half in Sydney.
