Poetry Recommendations 2016: Recommended volumes went on sale with this sticker

The Poetry Recommendations project is an initiative of the German Academy for Language and Poetry , the Lyrik Kabinett Foundation and the Berlin / Haus für Poesie literary workshop with the aim of bringing new publications and the diversity of voices in contemporary poetry more into public discussion.

Poetry recommendations

The list of “Poetry Recommendations” has been published annually in March since 2013, shortly before the Leipzig Book Fair , where it is presented in discussions and readings.

The recommendation list includes 24 volumes of poetry. Twelve critics, poets and representatives of literary institutions choose one volume of poetry written in German and one volume of poetry translated into German from the new publications of a year, which they consider “extraordinarily remarkable, interesting, surprising” and therefore recommend reading.

The list of recommendations is presented by the German Academy for Language and Poetry , the Münchner Lyrik Kabinett and the Berlin Literature Workshop in cooperation with the German Library Association . On March 21st, World Poetry Day, the poetry recommendations will be presented in libraries and bookstores.

The poetry recommendations received more attention in 2015 thanks to the mention of Jan Wagner's volume of poems “Regentonnenvariationen”: Shortly after the list of recommendations was published, the “Regentonnenvariationen” - as the first poetry volume ever - was awarded the Leipzig Book Fair prize.
