lyrikline.org is an initiative of the Haus für Poesie Berlin and was opened in November 1999 as a German-language internet platform for poetry .

history

Since its inception, lyrikline.org has developed into a cultural bridging project on the Internet that makes poetry accessible to everyone across borders and language barriers. 1000 poetic voices have been heard since October 2014. Peter Huchel was the thousandth voice on the lyrikline website on Saturday, October 18th, 2014. At that time there were poets from 102 countries with around 9,000 poems in 63 languages ​​and over 12,700 translations in 66 languages. On lyrikline all poems are spoken in the original version by the author himself. There are now more than 1,100 poets in 75 languages ​​in the original language, over 10,000 poems in the original language and in over 15,000 translations (as of April 2017). The website has 150,000 visitors per month (as of March 2019).

lyrikline.org has been under the patronage of the former Bundestag President Wolfgang Thierse since it was launched and since 2002 also under the patronage of the German Commission for UNESCO . In addition, the platform has been proposed as "an excellent form of contemporary, cross-border cultural work" as a UNESCO project. In 2001 lyrikline.org was honored by the United Nations with the international UN logo "Year of Dialogue Between Cultures", and in 2005 the project's website received the Grimme Online Award in the category of culture and entertainment.
