The vehicles of MÁV series 303 were fast - Tender locomotives of Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) for the express train service on main lines .
history
In 1940 MÁV ordered two express train locomotives from MÁVAG in Budapest for heavy express train service. The locomotives should be able to transport 550 t at 110 km / h and 430 t at 120 km / h.
Due to the war, the machines were not delivered until 1951. Due to the turmoil after the Second World War, no detailed tests could be undertaken to determine the full efficiency. At least it was found in smaller tests that it still ran smoothly at 150 km / h. On some sections it reached 140 km / h with 520 t towing load.
Due to the beginning change in traction to diesel and electric locomotives, there were no further orders. As a splinter class, the locomotives were taken out of service by 1962.
technical features
The locomotive was designed with a 2'C2 'wheel arrangement to guarantee smooth running. Due to the simplified maintenance and to save the bolster axle, it was designed as a two-cylinder locomotive.
The grate surface was the largest that the MÁV ever had. In order to provide the required performance, the locomotive was equipped with a mechanical grate feeder ( stoker ). In addition to relieving the heater, this had the advantage that the boiler was also spared.
As with the standard locomotives of the Deutsche Reichsbahn , the smoke deflectors were made the length of the smoke chamber.
