The MÁV IVe were freight train - Tender locomotives of Hungarian State Railways (MÁV).

history

Since the MÁV had not had any positive experience with the curve running with quadruple coupled locomotives (see  MÁV IVc ), it was decided to purchase mallet locomotives for freight train service on routes with steep inclines and curves.

After the Hungarian karst lines had been increased to 16 t permissible axle weight, more powerful locomotives could be procured compared to the mallets of the MÁV IVd series . The Budapest machine works chose larger wheel dimensions for its design than those of the IVd, which enabled a top speed of 60 km / h to be achieved. The known restless running of the IVd at 50 km / h was remedied in the IVe by using a leading axle with a return spring. The boiler was larger and more powerful than that of the IVd. For propulsion, however, a compound engine was chosen again. A Heusinger control was chosen as the control .

Since the MÁV soon went over to CC-Mallets ( MÁV 601 ), only 15 copies of the IVe series were procured.
