The MÁV Ie was an express train - steam locomotive series of the Hungarian State Railways MÁV.

In contrast to the other Hungarian express locomotives, the Ie series is a four-cylinder compound locomotive . In order to avoid the uneven running of two-cylinder compound machines, one high-pressure and one low-pressure cylinder were arranged one behind the other on both sides ( tandem system Woolf ), which formed a common casting. The Heusinger control was used for the first time in Hungary in the Ie series . The vehicles fulfilled the hopes placed in them. Compared to the MÁV Ia series, they were able to carry 40% more trailer load at 80 km / h.

The 93 machines were from Budapest , Floridsdorf , Wr. Neustadt and supplied by the StEG locomotive factory .

The machines delivered during the time of the first MÁV designation scheme were given the numbers 733–736. In the second scheme from 1891 they were classified as category Ie with the numbers 401-493. In the third scheme valid from 1911 they were given the designation 222,001-093. The MÁV If were also classified in this series as 222,094-095 in 1911.

From 1907 onwards, some machines in Budapest were fitted with a bread tank.
