Mário Cláudio

Mário Cláudio (actually Rui Manuel Pinto Barbot Costa ; born November 6, 1941 in Porto , Portugal ) is a Portuguese writer , poet and essayist .

Life

He studied law at the University of Coimbra and was also trained as an archive librarian. He graduated from the University of London with a "Master of Arts".

One of his most important prose works is the novel Amadeo from 1984. It describes the life and work of the painter Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso (1887–1918). With his novel-like biographies of artists from northern Portugal, Mário Cláudio became an important contemporary Portuguese writer in the 1980s. In addition to Amadeo, this also includes his biographies about the cellist Guilhermina Suggia and the sound artist Rosa Ramalho .
