men.ch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Männer.ch was founded on June 28, 2005 as the umbrella organization of Swiss men's and father's organizations. Members are men's initiatives, groups of fathers, various specialist departments, profit-oriented companies as well as individuals. Currently (as of spring 2011) the association represents the interests of around 3,000 men and women in over 20 institutions, the latter affiliated as collective members.

The association, based in Bern and with an office in Reinach BL, is mainly anchored in German-speaking Switzerland and is the central point of contact and socio-political topic guide for topics specific to men, fathers and boys. He does not see himself as a mouthpiece for anti-feminist movements, but as a bridge builder with the aim of promoting a constructive dialogue on a social level between men and women. Accordingly, Männer.ch works closely with other partners - such as Alliance F , the umbrella association of Swiss women's organizations - in the debate about the new legal regulation of parental custody in the event of separation / divorce .

The association sums up the political self-image as follows:

«We are the men's lobby. We set ourselves the task of formulating the concerns of boys, men and fathers so that the development of a gender-equitable society no longer remains a matter for women. In doing so, we refuse to take the simpler way of posing as “losers of emancipation” and placing the (existing) discrimination against men at the center of our work. Rather, we see our task in assuming responsibility for gender issues and equality policy from a men's point of view and in bringing the voice of boys, men and fathers into men's politics in a self-confident and cooperative manner. Because for us, men's politics always also means gender dialogue. We do not consider the gender struggle and the competition whether men or women are more disadvantaged by the existing framework conditions to be helpful. "

In 2007 the association launched the Swiss Father's Day. In addition, in cooperation with other parent, child and youth organizations, Männer.ch is advocating the introduction of a father leave standardized under labor law. In 2007, the President of Männer.ch, Markus Theunert , was elected by the Swiss Federal Council to the Federal Commission for Women's Issues (EKF), which advises the government on issues of equality as an extra-parliamentary committee of experts. After his resignation in 2013, Markus Gygli was elected to the commission as a representative of Männer.ch.

In January 2016, Theunert resigned from the office of President to take up the newly created position of Secretary General of the association. Markus Gygli became his successor as President.
