Fairy tales from the Orient is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 444). The work was performed for the first time on November 27, 1892 in the concert hall of the Wiener Musikverein .

Remarks

The waltz was composed on the occasion of the 50th birthday of Sultan Abdülhamid II (1842-1918) and dedicated to him. It is a symphonic waltz. These waltzes, which are also known as the composer's age waltzes, were created during a creative phase that lasted roughly from 1888 to 1892. The premiere was conducted by Johann Strauss himself, although the actual concert on November 27, 1892 was conducted by his brother Eduard . The work was only moderately popular at the time, but is now one of the composer's main works.
