Mérieux

The Mérieux family is an entrepreneurial family from Lyon in France. The family members are the founders of companies such as Sanofi Pasteur , bioMérieux ( in vitro diagnostics ) and Merial (products for veterinarians), but also the Marcel-Mérieux Foundation , the BSL-4 Laboratoire Jean Mérieux and the humanitarian organization Bioforce. You are also the majority owner of the Mérieux NutriSciences laboratory group .

  • Marcel Mérieux (1870–1937) , student in 1891 at the École Supérieure de Chimie Industrielle de Lyon ( ESCIL for short ), former assistant to Louis Pasteur , founder of the Mérieux Biological Institute in Lyon ( Institut Mérieux ) in 1897 (now part of Sanofi Pasteur ).
    • Jean Mérieux , doctor. Died at the age of 26 from tuberculosis-related meningitis contracted in the family laboratory.
    • Charles Mérieux (1907–2001) , doctor and entrepreneur. Founder of the Marcel-Mérieux Foundation, the Bioforce humanitarian organization and the BSL-4 laboratory “Laboratoire Jean Mérieux”.
      • Jean Mérieux (–1994) died in a car accident in 1994.
      • Alain Mérieux (1938–) , doctor of pharmacy and entrepreneur. Founder of bioMérieux .
        • Christophe Mérieux (1967-14 July 2006 ) , doctor. Kidnapping victim aged 9 (released for a ransom of 20 million francs), died of heart failure at the age of 39.
        • Rodolphe Mérieux (1969–1996) , victim of a plane crash on Trans-World Airlines flight 800 .
        • Alexandre Mérieux (1974–) , head of the bioMérieux Group.
