Strandtorp Mill - View from the east

The mill Strandtorp is a windmill in the village Strandtorp on the Swedish Baltic island of Öland .

The mill is visible from afar due to its location on the road 136, which runs along the west coast of Öland and the barren Alvar landscape that begins to the east of the mill, and is thus the landmark of Strandtorp. It differs from the typical Öland mills because of its different construction. The Mill of Strandtorp was a Dutch windmill built, while the majority of Öland mills windmills are. With this type of construction, only the upper part of the mill, to which the mill blades are attached, turns into the wind, while the mill building is stationary.

The mill originally stood in Borgholm further north . It was dismantled there around 1900 and rebuilt in Strandtorp. Today the mill is used as a café during the season.

To the south of the mill is the prehistoric cemetery of Strandtorp .
