The publishing house was founded in 1980 by Tillmann Roeder under the name Buchendorfer Verlag . In 1984 the book Pasing - Stadt vor der Stadt was published as the first of many Munich district books . The publishing house in 2003 in bankruptcy ; it was bought and continued by the librarian Lioba Betten . With the focus on pure “Munich books”, the publishing house was renamed MünchenVerlag in 2005 . At the beginning of 2013 it was sold to Belser Verlag and has been used as the publisher's name ever since.

58 titles on the history of the city and current events in Munich are currently available: District books, books on modern architecture, facades and Art Nouveau, on bridges, fountains and cemeteries, books on festivals and markets as well as Munich personalities ("MünchenPortraits")
