The Münchner Bank eG is a cooperative bank based in Munich and the oldest credit union in Bavaria. With around 500 employees (including subsidiaries ), 28 locations in the Munich area and total assets of 3.211 billion euros, it is one of the largest universal cooperative banks in Bavaria .

history

On July 12, 1862, 22 Munich craftsmen, merchants, industrialists and civil servants founded the Munich Loan Association (with solidarity ). The institute should be a self-help cooperative organization for accepting savings and extending loans to its members.

In April 1865 the institute operated as the Munich industrial bank . It was the first commercial credit union in Bavaria. Hermann Schulze-Delitzsch , founder of the German trade and business cooperatives and Volksbanks, contributed to the drafting of the statutes.

In October 1873, today's Münchner Bank eG built its first own bank building at 11 Petersplatz. Another property at Frauenplatz 2 was acquired in November 1897. After a two-year renovation phase, the bank's headquarters were relocated to this building, directly across from the Frauenkirche in Munich .

In July 1964 merged the Institute with the Upper Bavarian Volksbank in the neighboring Augustinerstraße 1. Upper Bavarian Volksbank was founded in 1881st The merged bank was called Volksbank München ever since .

In July 1990, Volksbank München merged with Münchner Bank, which had been founded in 1881. The new institute was renamed Münchner Bank eG Volksbank . The main office remained at Frauenplatz 2. In April 1995, Münchner Bank eG was given its current name. In July 2005 the bank merged with Raiffeisenbank München eG .

In October 2008 the move to the new administration center in Forum Bogenhausen took place. The originally four administrative locations at Frauenplatz, Brienner Strasse, Nymphenburger and Hofer Strasse were combined in the new location at Richard-Strauss-Strasse 82.

With retroactive effect from January 1, 2012, the Münchner Bank merged with the Raiffeisenbank Oberschleißheim. The merger was entered in the cooperative register on September 19, 2012, the technical merger of the two banks took place on September 22 and 23, 2012.

On November 15, 2013, the newly designed head office of the Münchner Bank was reopened on Frauenplatz. In addition to the competence center, this is also home to its own museum.
