Munich learning house concept

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Munich learning house concept is a concept for the construction of new school buildings , which takes into account the special spatial, educational and personnel organizational requirements of schools. A learning house sees itself spatially and organizationally as a “small school” within the large school community in which several grades are grouped together.

approach

The concept aims to create the architecturally, educationally and school-organizationally necessary prerequisites for the implementation of the rhythmic full-time and inclusion. Schoolchildren of all grades learn in “clusters”, which - depending on the type of school - consist of several classrooms, rooms for all-day care or differentiation and a team room for teachers and educational staff. These rooms are grouped around the "marketplace", which forms the center of the unit. This center should be used many opportunities for individualization, group work, presentations or simply for breaks and relaxation. The concept was developed and implemented in Munich by Rainer Schweppe .

reception

In addition to the theoretical concept, practical ideas and tips as well as experiences from learning house schools are presented in a “practice book” published in 2016. This “practical book” does not contain any representative studies, only views and individual opinions. As a result, the “Praxisbuch” has more of an advertising character. Examples of new buildings that have already been built according to the “Munich learning house concept” are the Trudering grammar school and the primary school on Ilse-von-Twardowski-Platz. The Munich-North secondary school on Knorrstrasse, an elite sports school completed in 2016 , and the Freiham educational campus are also implemented according to the “Munich learning house concept”.

There are no empirical evaluations on the subject of the “learning house concept” - as is the case with traditional school house concepts. The Munich city council decided in May 2015 to implement the Munich learning house concept for all new buildings and extensive renovations. Due to the cost increase of the Munich daycare and school building offensive, the largest educational building program in Germany, it was checked whether savings are possible within the framework of the Munich learning house concept. The non-educational areas were reduced in size by five percent and the city council unanimously confirmed the concept with the first building program resolution for the Munich school building campaign.

criticism

In 2014, the GEW trade union criticized the tentative introduction of a "middle management level" at four secondary schools.
