Coin cups ( coin bowls, coin cups ) are silver drinking vessels of various shapes, in the belly and lid of which real coins are embedded in such a way that the obverse is turned outwards and the lapel inwards. Since mostly large coins ( thaler ) are chosen, the coin cups are also called thaler bowls. The coin cups appeared in the early 16th century and were still made as honorary gifts in the 19th century.
