Māori Television is a television station in New Zealand that seeks to revive the Maori language Te Reo Māori and Maori culture Tikanga Māori . With funds from the New Zealand government, the station was set up in Auckland and has been broadcasting since March 28, 2004 .

The station changes its name to Maori Television Tahi (Maori TV One) at the end of 2007 , as a new station Maori Television Rua (Maori TV Two) starts its programs.

In its very first month on the air, Māori Television instantly reached an audience of 300,000. Three years later, in April 2007, Māori Television had 722,000 viewers, an increase of 140 percent. From March 2004 to the end of 2007, more than 1.7 million New Zealanders have seen the station's program.

70 percent of all Māori over 5 years old have already seen Māori Television; 73 percent of all inhabitants of the islands of Oceania ; 43 percent of Pākehā New Zealanders; and 32 percent of all New Zealand Asians. More than 97 percent of New Zealand's population is familiar with Māori Television, 67 percent of the total population has seen it, and 82 percent of the total population supports Māori Television as a permanent part of the local television landscape.
