Mārtiņš Brauns
Mārtiņš Brauns (born September 17, 1951 in Riga , Latvian SSR ) is a Latvian composer and musician.
Life
Mārtiņš Brauns received a classical education at the Emīl Dārziņa Music School and at the Latvian Music Academy "Jāzeps Vītols" . From 1978 to 1986 he was the songwriter and pianist of the rock group "Sīpoli". Brauns composed several works that were performed at the song festivals . His main job was to provide music for many theater productions and films .
He has been awarded the Lielais Kristaps Culture Prize for the best film music several times . His most famous work, " Saule, Pērkons, Daugava " (German: " Sonne , Donner , Düna "), is based on a text by the poet Rainis . In 2014, the Catalan version of this song, "Ara és l'hora" (German: The hour is here), was declared the official anthem of the local independence movement .
