Mārtiņš Mits

Mārtiņš Mits (born March 25, 1972 in Riga ) is a Latvian lawyer and judge at the European Court of Human Rights .

Life

After studying law , Mits obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Latvia in Riga in 1995 . He then worked in various positions at the law faculty there and obtained his Master of Laws degree from the University of Nottingham in 1998 . From 1999 Mits worked as a lecturer at the Riga Graduate School of Law . After he was promoted to lecturer there in 2012, he has been a professor there since 2013. From 2008 to 2015 he was Vice Rector of the Riga School of Law. In 2010 Mits received his doctorate from Lund University in Sweden. iur. After Mits had previously been listed as an ad hoc judge at the European Court of Human Rights from 2012 , he was elected a judge at the ECHR in September 2015 as the successor to Ineta Ziemele as representative of Latvia. He also served as an expert on European law and human rights issues in various committees.
