Mōko Shūrai Ekotoba ( Japanese 蒙古 襲来 絵 詞 , German about: "Illustrated history of the Mongol invasion ", also: Takezaki Suenaga Ekotoba ( 竹崎 季 長 絵 詞 )) refers to two illustrated scrolls ( emakimono ) that were made in the Kamakura period , between 1275 and 1293, originated in Japan . The author of the scrolls is unknown, but they were commissioned by Takezaki Suenaga , a samurai from Higo province , to immortalize his achievements and successes during the Mongol invasions in Japan .

overview

The pictures show scenes of the fighting between the invading armies of the Mongols and the defenders on land and at sea. Some scenes are commented on by texts. There are several versions of the scrolls: the original from the 13th century , a copy from the 18th century , a copy drawn by Fukuda Taika from the 19th century , and a reconstruction from the 21st century . The original from the 13th century is currently kept in the "Museum of the Imperial Collections" of the Tokyo Imperial Palace in the Chiyoda district .
