Mui Ne is a fishing village in Vietnam . It is located in the province of Binh Thuan, about 220 km from Ho Chi Minh City , and since 1999 the town has been part of the provincial capital Phan Thiết administratively . The place became known for its sand dunes as well as its bathing and kitesurfing tourism. The first foreign tourists discovered the sand dunes and beaches in the area on the occasion of the solar eclipse on October 24, 1995 .

Mui Ne and the other rural outskirts of Phan Thiếts (wards) extend over about 50 kilometers on the coast of the South China Sea , which is called "East Sea" in Vietnam.

The fine sandy beaches on Mui Ne Bay, lined with coconut palms, have been transformed into a tourist center since the mid-1990s.

The place Mui Ne has two beaches: Ganh Beach and Suoi Nuoc Beach, on which a number of resorts, shops and restaurants line up. The most touristically developed area is Rang Beach in the neighboring hamlet of Ham Tien, which extends west of Mui Ne over ten kilometers along the bay to Phu Hai, with hundreds of resorts and hotels, restaurants, bars, shops and cafes.

Thanks to the strong winds at Cape Mui Ne, these beaches are ideal for kite and windsurfing. The main season is from December to April, the rainiest months are traditionally September and October. Average temperature is 27 ° C, and the climate is hot and dry all year round.

Surname

"Mũi" means "nose" or "peninsula", "Né" means "to seek protection, to hide". The name of the place comes from the fishermen who used the geographical location Mũi Nés on a cape to find shelter from stormy seas and their boats still today, depending on the weather on one side or the other of the headland on which the meanwhile The fishing village of M Fischeri Né with a population of 25,000 is moored.

The place once lived exclusively from fishing and a few fish sauce factories, but since the mid-1990s tourism has become an even more important source of income.

Since the mid-1990s, numerous hotels, guest houses, restaurants and surf schools have settled on the kilometer-long sandy beaches. Today, restaurants, tour offices, souvenir and grocery stores line the coastal road. In 1994 the bay, a four to five hour drive from Saigon, was still completely undeveloped. The first beach hotel opened in 1995.

Flat water and perfect winds have made Mui Ne a popular destination for kite surfers. There are now numerous kite surfing schools.

Another source of income is fishing , which is carried out from fishing trawlers or from round basket boats, the so-called thúng chai , near the beach . These basket boats were invented by the Vietnamese to avoid the taxation of ships by the French colonial rulers.
