M3MSat (Maritime Monitoring and Messaging Microsatellite, also exactView 7 or EV 7 ) is a Canadian communications satellite that was launched on June 22, 2016. The launch of the satellite was originally planned for June 19, 2014 with a Soyuz rocket . Due to the Crimean crisis , the Canadian government banned the launch with a Russian launcher, whereupon an Indian PSLV was booked as a launcher.

mission

The mission is a joint venture between the University of Toronto , Defense Research and Development Canada (DRDC) , the Canadian Space Agency and COM DEV International .

The mission's tasks include:

  • Trying out and testing new microsatellite technology, including cameras, radio, telemetry data
  • Observation and identification of ships moving towards the American / Canadian mainland and in the myriad rivers
  • Safety system to avoid collisions

The satellite was designed for a service life of at least one year, ideally for two years. After intensive tests in orbit, the satellite went into operation on May 18, 2017. He sends his data to a satellite receiver of Defense Research and Development Canada in Ottawa .
