M93 (mine)

The M93 is a modern American anti-tank mine that is built in several versions.

It was developed from 1987 by Honeywell Defense Systems and Textron Inc. and belongs to the Smart Weapons . The US Army was commissioned to do this in 1986, although the exact parameters were not established until 1990. The development phase was completed in 1997 and the mine has been delivered to the armed forces since 1999. The weapon is also manufactured under license in Israel.

The M93 uses both seismic and acoustic sensors to monitor its surroundings and to detect, locate and classify targets. When a suitable target is recognized, the mine roughly aligns itself with the target and launches a submunition directed into the target by infrared . This fights the target from above with a shaped charge, which can be done from a distance of up to 100 meters. The mine, which weighs around 16 kg, destroys itself after an adjustable time between 4 hours and 30 days.

There are four versions of the mine. The simplest is laid by hand and cannot be resumed. The second version can be armed and disarmed by remote control (with a range of 2 km), as well as being resumed. The third improved version can also detect trucks and armored personnel carriers with wheels (instead of chains) and is insensitive to countermeasures. The fourth version can be laid by plane or missile.
