The Maschinen- und Apparatebau Schkeuditz ( MAB ) was the largest operation of the VEB Kombinat Luft- und Kältetechnik (ILKA) in the GDR and with 3,500 employees the largest employer in the city of Schkeuditz .

history

After the end of the Second World War in 1945, the companies Siebel Flugzeugwerke GmbH Werk III Schkeuditz and the Deutsche Lufthansa AG Berlin Überholungswerkstätten Schkeuditz merged to form Hansa Werkstätten GmbH . It was produced for the Soviet military aircraft industry. December 18, 1945, the company was under receivership asked. In 1965 the front-end crank compressor series was developed for the refrigerant R12 from 10 to 28 m 3 / h, which was characterized by its light metal housing as the lightest compressor of this size worldwide. In 1970 the sales figures reached several thousand and the development of the refrigerant R22 began. The number of employees rises to 2,500 and sales reached 200 million marks . After German reunification in 1990, VEB MAB was wound up and the company was privatized as Maschinen- und Apparatebau Schkeuditz . In the first phase of privatization from 1991 onwards, around 20 companies were created on the site and from parts of the MAB, including:

The administration building was bought by the Preussag company Noell. The former MAB site was named Industriegebiet Schkeuditz-Nord . In 2001 around 1,500 people were employed there. More than 400 of these employees work at the Bitzer company alone, which grew to over 700 in 2013.
