Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro
The Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro , in Portuguese Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro ( MAM , also: MAMRJ , MAMRio ) was founded in 1948. The postmodern museum building, completed in 1955 , was designed by Affonso Eduardo Reidy . The gardens come from Roberto Burle Marx . In addition to an excellent collection of Brazilian art, the museum also houses changing international exhibitions.
After the fire disaster in 1978, the collection was rebuilt through various donations and purchases. Since 1993, the museum has also housed the collection of the art patron Gilberto Chateaubriand with around 4,000 works of modern and contemporary art.
