MMV (ventilation mode)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The MMV resuscitation ( Mandatory Minute Ventilation ), also known as mandatory minute ventilation , is a form of mechanical ventilation . A certain minute volume of breath is given and the patient's spontaneous breathing is continuously measured by a control instrument . As long as the volume is achieved through spontaneous breathing alone, the machine remains inactive. If, on the other hand, the volume is not reached, the machine delivers one or more breaths so that the necessary (“mandatory”) minute volume is achieved.

The concept introduced in 1980 has not caught on in clinical practice.
