The Association of model railroaders and railway enthusiasts Europe abbreviated MOROP , French: Union Européenne des Modélistes Ferroviaires des Amis et des Chemin de Fer is one in continental Europe active association and has as club located under Swiss law in Bern (Switzerland). Members are various regional associations of hobby railroad and model railroad clubs . The name is from the word Mo (French: dell railway Mo délistes Ferroviaires; English: Mo del Railroad) and the word Eu rop a (French as in English: Eu rop e) assembled.

Goal setting

The current goal of MOROP is to disseminate the existing standards , recommendations and documentation for the model railroad sector, to improve them in detail or to supplement them in individual cases. These are generally referred to as standards for European model railways , abbreviated as NEM, although they also contain recommendations and documentation. They are determined and updated by the MOROP Technical Commission, which consists of a few people, including individual representatives of manufacturers and suppliers from the model railway industry.

history

The model railway is a development from the beginning of the last century. The growing success of these products brought with them a plethora of manufacturers, each with their own system (based on the gauge in the model , scales , etc.) on the market. This incompatibility, which was initially intended, became a disadvantage for the sales of the models and accessories over time. Therefore, in September 1954 in Genoa, the national model railway associations from Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Austria and Switzerland came together to form the Association of Model Railroaders and Railway Friends of Europe , with the aim of developing uniform standards and recommendations for the model railway sector.

Just a few years later, in the 1950s, the most important basics had been worked out.

In the 1980s and 1990s, further standards and recommendations regarding digitally controlled model railways , modular construction and the division of the epochs were added.

Since the 1990s, MOROP has not provided any decisive impulses on the subject of standards, recommendations and documentation. Rather, the MOROP concentrates solely on an annual delegate meeting. For years, a framework program has been associated with this assembly of delegates, which lasts from weekend to weekend and mainly includes visits to the railway environment and less the model railway.
