The Mowag Shark was a buoyant armored vehicle from the Swiss manufacturer Mowag .
History and Development
The Shark was designed as a heavy weapon carrier, which should replace conventional main battle tanks with chains. As a further development of the Piranha 1, it was provided with steering on the front and rear axles, the two central axles are rigid / unguided. This enabled a tight turning circle (12.5 m) to be achieved. The suspension also has a special feature. The first and fourth axles have independent suspension with a conventional strut and built-in shock absorber, the second and third axles have independent suspension with torsion bar springs and external shock absorbers in order to achieve the best possible use of space inside the vehicle. The MOWAG Shark was built in Switzerland, Germany and Canada with an Oerlikon 30 mm gun turret GDD-BOE , a Rheinmetall gun turret RH 105-11 with a 105 mm tank cannon and a Flab turret with 2 × 35 mm Oerlikon Gas pressure charger MK tested. It was also possible to use the Shark as an infantry transporter without a tower. Driver and commander sit next to each other, the engine is in the stern. Possible armament: 30 mm, 35 mm, twin flak Wildcat 2 × 30 mm, TSE 5000 Crotale , ADATS or a Rheinmetall 105 mm cannon.
However, it never came to series production; only three prototypes were built in 1981. One of them is now in the Swiss Military Museum in Full .
