M 2 (MSBS)
The M 2 were French ballistic nuclear missiles that were stationed on submarines . The missiles differed from their predecessors of the M 1 type in that they had an enlarged 2nd stage. This increased the range by 700 km.
The missiles were introduced in 1974 with Le Foudroyant (S 610) , the third boat in the Redoutable class . The two older Redoutable-class submarines were later armed with the new missiles.
The missiles were replaced from 1977 by the heavier armed M 20 missiles.
