Ma'adim Vallis is one of the largest canyons on Mars and, at 700 kilometers, is significantly longer than the Grand Canyon . It has a width of 20 kilometers and a depth of 2 km. The canyon runs from a southern lowland region, which used to have several large lakes, to the north and flows into the Gusev crater near the equator. Ma'adim Vallis was believed to have been covered by running water in early Martian history. Ma'adim (מאדים) is the Hebrew name of Mars.
