Penal system Brandenburg / Havel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Brandenburg / Havel penal system is a closed clinic for forensic psychiatry within the Asklepios Fachklinikum Brandenburg , in which mentally ill offenders are accommodated in accordance with Section 63 of the Criminal Code .

With a total of 121 treatment places, the clinic is the second largest of its kind in the state of Brandenburg and specializes exclusively in the mentally ill (according to § 63 StGB); Addicts (according to § 64 StGB) do not sit. It consists of a historic old building and new buildings that were built in 2001. Workshops (bookbinding, joinery and clay workshop) are housed in the historical part. The inmates sit in the new building, in which there are mostly two-bed rooms, each with a wet cell . Asklepios is responsible for the penal system, which is part of the Brandenburg Medical Center . Ingolf Piezka is the facility's chief physician .

Among the 121 inmates in Brandenburg are 45 with an intellectual disability . Born Wolfgang Schmidt , among others, is housed in the clinic . Frank Schmökel was also imprisoned here until March 2017 before he was transferred to the Luckau-Duben correctional facility .

In 2008 it became known that the penal system would be expanded by around 50 places. The government reacted to the increase in occupancy. The state of Brandenburg recorded an annual increase of around 18 cases.
