The Mabayani Dam is a reservoir in the Tanga region in northern Tanzania . In the 1970s, the Sigi River was dammed with German financial aid (including from KfW Bank ) to ensure the drinking water supply for the city of Tanga, twelve kilometers away . This clay core dam, completed in 1978, was built near the village of Mabayani , hence its name.
