Johannes Ebenbauer

Johannes Ebenbauer (* 1963 in Strallegg ) is an Austrian organist , choir director , conductor , composer and church musician .

Life

Johannes Ebenbauer received his first instrumental lessons from his grandfather before taking piano and organ lessons at the Bischöfliches Gymnasium in Graz . There he was not only active as a house organist and choir singer, but also got to know the great oratorio literature through his participation in the Graz Cathedral Choir . In addition to his school education, he studied church music at the University of Art in Graz , where he graduated in 1985 in organ ( Ernst Triebel ), conducting, singing and composition. He also pursued further studies in solo singing and theology .

In 1985 Ebenbauer was appointed assistant to the Vienna Cathedral Music at St. Stephan under the then Cathedral Music Director Peter Planyavsky . During this time he studied organ concert at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Herbert Tachezi and graduated successfully in 1988. In 1994 he was awarded the title of Magister artium in this context .

From 1991 to 2005 Ebenbauer held the office of Vienna Cathedral Music Director, which involved the musical and organizational management of all ensembles of Vienna Cathedral Music in the liturgy and at concerts. In this function he worked regularly with the ORF on radio and television broadcasts, and from 1998 onwards he could also be heard weekly on Radio Stephansdom .

Since 1989 he has worked as a teacher at the Diocesan Conservatory for Church Music of the Archdiocese of Vienna , where he a. a. has taught organ and composition and since 2002 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where he teaches improvisation, liturgical organ , Catholic hymnology , ear training and vocal ensembles.

Ebenbauer gives concerts at home and abroad as an organist and conductor. Since 2005 he has headed the concert association musica.sacra.wien , which includes the choirs Capella Albertina and Cantorey Vienna as well as the baroque orchestra JJ Fux and its choral schola . Since 2006 he has also been the director of the Augustinus Festival in Vorau .
