Machir (person)

Machir ( Heb. מכיר) means a person in the time of King David .

etymology

The name Machir comes from the Hebrew verb מכר (sell) and means "the sold one".

Biblical representation

Machir is mentioned in 2 Sam 9.4-5  EU and 2 Sam 17.27  EU . He was the son of Ammiël and lived in Lo-Dabar in the north east bank . During the quarrel between David and Saul, he housed the handicapped son of Jonathan , Mefi-Boscheth . On David's escape he was one of the supporters of David and his entourage when they camped in Mahanajim .
